Youth have many opportunities to develop job and leadership skills, while mentoring and being mentored.

Listening Tours and Family-to-Family Workshops

Freedom Scholars Learning Center in Partnership with School #33 PTA is coordinating, supporting and hosting Listening Tours and Family-to-Family workshops to highlight and share the voices and expertise of parents and families from School #33. Our goal is to create spaces for families to connect, to be heard, and share and learn together. For now, we will meet virtually on Zoom. Family workshops will be live-streamed and posted for viewing.

Remote Learning

Equity Learning Pods

The FSLC Equity Learning Pods offer families access to 10 weeks of educational support for their middle school children. RCSD scholars will complete their school work at the Learning Center within a family or cohort-based pod, each including a trained educator. The staff will work with scholars to grow their academic, social, and cultural literacies.

The Integrated Reading Curriculum

All of our programs make use of the Center’s extensive library which is based on the Children’s Defense Fund’s multicultural Integrated Reading Curriculum (IRC). IRC lessons go beyond celebrating diversity; they openly explore and challenge racism and other forms of injustice, analyzing structural sources of oppression and exclusion in history and the present. Love of reading is encouraged throughout and the Center works to help scholars build home libraries, often sending home books whenever possible.
